Though we celebrated a victory Tuesday night, it's taken a few days for the results to truly sink in.
I'm finally able to grasp the great honor the voters of Dubuque have entrusted me with, and I intend to serve in a way that makes you proud.
Campaigns don't win themselves, and the number of thanks owed is truly endless. I can start by thanking my husband, Ryan, who has been patient and supportive during many busy nights campaigning.
Super volunteers Lizz Tyler (Campaign Chair), Todd Lange (Data Strategist), and Christian Stillings (canvassing rockstar), Debra, Mary, and Chris, among MANY others, who encouraged me to run, supported me every step of the way, and gave so much time and talent.
Super donors Stephonie Schmitz with SAO Dyzynz for designing my beautiful campaign brand pro-bono, and always showing up to support, too; Ann McDonough with Plane Art Designs for our fantastic campaign t-shirts, Dr. Jeff Manternach for the generous gifts, Iowa Women for Progressive Change for their support, and more than 100 other friends, family members and neighbors who donated and helped make this happen!
My sister, Kelli, parents Ann & Craig, and Pat & Jan, Grandparents Phil and Evelyn Muñoz, and the best extended family(ies) in the world, who all chipped in and supported me with much love and many donations early on and throughout.
I want to also thank the elected officials who have set such a good example for me, especially my predecessor, Councilwoman Joyce Connors. Councilwoman Connors has been a fantastic role model not just for me, but for local women and girls everywhere by serving 16 years on the Dubuque City Council with integrity, honesty and empathy.
No one can fill your shoes, Joyce, but it will be a true honor to fill your seat.
And finally, I want to thank the voters. Because you are truly the ones who made this happen. Thank you for turning out, in record numbers, to vote.
A strong democracy depends on you, and I hope you'll stay involved. Whether it's by joining a board or commission, attending public input meetings, or letting your representatives know directly how you feel about an issue, let's keep the momentum going.
Thanks again, everyone, for all you've done to make this a people-powered campaign we can be proud of. I couldn't have done it without you.
Dubuque City Councilwoman-Elect, Ward 3
